BackgroundIf possible, you should live on campus for at least one year.
I am a transfer student from the Lansing area of Michigan. I went to Haslett High School and was in the 2004 class. My activities in high school were dance team, marching band (colorguard), concert band, bible study, and choir. I attended Lansing Community College for two years as a music major.
My junior year of high school, I looked at three universities I wanted to attend. I checked out all three schools from each of their websites and their campus visits, which all included tours. Because of the music program's reputation at Western and that I felt welcomed when I went on the tour more than any other school, I knew Western was the right place for me. Because of financial issues and me not making it into the school of music, my parents decided that it was best for me to attend a community college to get my general education courses out of the way. My sophomore year, I started looking at universities again, mostly hoping to get into Western. When I found out that my major was offered here and not at the other school I auditioned for, the decision was easy from there. I ended wanting to major in music therapy because I am interested in music and psychology and I wanted my job to help people.
I absolutely love college life here at Western! I am always learning new things that will strongly help me in my career down the road. I also love all the things there is to do. I am in a group called Students for Life. In this organization, I learn how to defend my stance on Pro-Life by listening to speakers and going to conventions, while bonding with the rest of the group. In my free time I like to go to hockey and football games, work out at the recreation center, go to a concert or recital, go to the mall, go to the movies, or just go out to eat with friends.
