BackgroundAdvice that I would give incoming freshman is when you get here make as many friends as you can, it makes your college experience much more memorable. I would also encourage you to go Greek, check it out even if you are a little skeptical.
I am from Eagle River, Alaska. I was born and raised there. I graduated in 2009 from Eagle River High School.
I wasn't sure where I wanted to go to college, I just knew I wanted to get out of Alaska. My friend had taken a college visit to Western and I hadn't taken a visit to anywhere. She told me how great it was at Western and how much I would like it. I looked into a few school and really looked into Western. I also found out that I had a cousin who I found out worked at Western. I called her up and had a good conversation with her about the school and she sold me on it! Before I had even picked a school I knew what I wanted to major in. Ever since middle school I had aspired to be a psychologist and to help people when they need it the most. After my second semester at Western when I took my first Social Work class I decided that I wanted to add that as my second major.
My freshman year college I lived in the residence halls. This was such an amazing experience, I met all of my best friends down the hall from me. Coming to school so far away I didn't know anyone. I decided to go though formal sorority recruitment fall of my freshman year. It was the best decision I made, I now have a family here at Western and have gotten so involved on campus. In my free time I like to go shopping, hang out with my friends, and go to the beach!
