Advice for Freshman

As a word of advice for freshmen/transfer students, definitely get involved in something on campus, it just makes the experience that much better.

About MiQuan

Well hello, I’m MiQuan and I’m a freshman at WMU. I’m from South Bend, Indiana and graduated from John Adams High School in 2009. I’m a musician, specifically a trumpet player, and I was once an athlete, before I got to college and realized that WMU’s athletics took hard work and dedication…which would detract from my musical studies (also requires hard work and dedication).

My college decision process consisted of multiple auditions, interviews, and tours. My entire application process took place online which was a fairly simple process. Most of the campuses that I visited/ auditioned at just didn’t seem like the place for me, but once I was accepted into WMU’s School of Music, I just felt like WMU was the place for me. The trumpet professors are two of the beset trumpet professors in the world…no lie, they are the primary reason I decided to perfect my craft at WMU.

College life can be pretty intense with classes, work, homework, practice, etc. But as long as your priorities are in order, everything is usually pretty good. Besides working in the student ambassador office, I perform within the school of music and downtown at our local jazz club, so when I’m not working I’m usually doing something music/school related at least until I head back to the residence halls where I play hours upon hours of video games and waste a little time on Facebook.
