My advice? Take a tour, get on the phone and call us, or email an ambassador. Try to get a "feel" for WMU; I am sure you will find a home with us.

About Matthew V

Hello! I am a student studying Organizational Communication and Philosophy at Western Michigan University. I am happy you are researching WMU and are interested in the students that attend this school. Being an ambassador for this University I take great pride in the many facets that compose WMU including academics, student life, student organizations, and chances for personal development. From my small high school in Berrien Springs, Michigan, I have found a university that is large enough to compete globally but small enough to see me as a person. I invite you to learn more about my story, ask questions, and explore what Western has to offer for you!

My career at Western Michigan University began on campus as an incoming freshman. I quickly got involved with student organizations, in particular our LGBTQQA and Ally group, OUTspoken. I also landed a sweet job at the Student Ambassador Office where I get to represent the University and my personal experience every day! In OUTspoken I joined the executive board and had the honor of serving as President during the 2011-2012 academic year. I also joined our student government on campus, the Western Student Association, as their Diversity Guidance Chair. My time at WMU has been complimented by the breadth of organizations available and the ability to create an experience that added to my own growth as an individual. I have been blessed with these opportunities through a unique learner centered atmosphere at WMU.

When searching out colleges I was very overwhelmed. I hope you are working your way through your search but it is okay to feel inundated with the sheer amount of programs and options. This combined with varying financial structures, geographic locations and proximity create a tough decision.
