BackgroundWhen coming to Western, make sure you involve yourself in an organization or various activities on campus. You never know what types of opportunities will be presented to you from doing so. Also, make sure you go to class and ALWAYS carry a planner!
Hey Friends! My name is Lydia and I am a freshman here at Western Michigan University. I was born and raised ten minutes away from Western’s campus in Kalamazoo, MI. I attended Loy Norrix High School for three years and then went to Paris, France my senior year for study abroad.
My college decision process was a little different than the average student’s. I was overseas for the majority of my senior year, so I was unable to visit campuses or go on any tours. I relied a lot on university websites and phone conversations. Even though Western was not my first choice in schools, I was quickly won over by their extremely positive attitudes and their willingness to sit on the phone with me for an hour to help me understand campus life. My decision to come to WMU was also based on my financial standing and major/minor. Western has a great business curriculum.
College life is fabulous! I am involved in a couple of really awesome organizations here on campus. For instance, I attend our Western Student Association meetings (student government), International Programs Council meetings and activities, and I am apart of the International Education Committee here on campus. Outside of campus, I make movies as well as intern as a production assistant for various motion pictures and corporate films.
