Kristin's Advice for Freshman

Work on time management skills-during college. You have soooo much free time, have fun with it, but ALWAYS make time to study.

About Kristin

My name is Kristin. I am a Senior at Western. GO Broncos! I grew up in a small town called Homer located about an hour away. Homer is an extremely small town with about 1,800 people, so living in Kalamazoo has been an awesome experience. I graduated one of the five Valedictorians from my class of 76 people. Pretty small huh! Oh ya, and the Class of 06' ROCKS!!!! In my spare time I enjoy working out, hanging out with all of my wonderful friends, reading, enjoying Western and college life, spending time with my family, and meeting new people.

Finding the right college was one of the hardest decisions of my life. It took a lot of time, effort and research to finally find the right one. One of the biggest things that helped to influence my decision was the campus tour. I actually went on two tours, one at the beginning of my senior year and then again during one of the open house dates. It was great to get an in-depth tour of the campus, see the housing options and get a taste of the food. The people were friendly and to this day I can still remember the Student Ambassador who gave me my first tour...that is the type of positive impression Western leaves. I decided to come to Western for many reasons. One, it was close enough to home that I could go home at anytime, but it was far enough away that my parents would not be popping up. Second, Western offered me many choices for my major. My first choice was nursing, but if that did not work out I could always fall back on my second choice: business, or my third: secondary ed. Third, I love the city of Kalamazoo. It is a beautiful city with tons to offer.

Currently I am not involved in any student activities or organizations. For now I am trying to focus on my studies, my job, and the most critical thing TIME MANAGEMENT. Throughout life I was told college is all about time management and I did not listen.....but come to find out it is totally true! I have lived in Britton which is a residece hall located in Vally I. It has been an awesome experience. I have had so much fun getting to know people and making new friends. Get this....the food is even really good!!! In my spare time I like to go to the Student Recreation Center to work out, hang out with my new friends, meet new people, eat in the cafeterias and of course study..study.. STUDY!
