BackgroundLive in the residence halls for at least your first year, you'll meet the greatest people and have the most amazing experiences!
Hi everyone, my name is Kerstan. I am a senior here at Western and I love it! I will be graduating in April and I cannot wait! I am from a small town called Perry which is right outside of East Lansing. I graduated in 2006 from a class of about 100 people. In high school I played volleyball, softball, and was involved in tons of different organizations, but mainly Student Council and the Spanish Club.
I knew Western was my place to be since my junior year of high school. I knew this because it had everything I wanted in a university. What I wanted was one with a fairly large student population and one that wouldn’t treat me like a number. I also wanted a school that was close enough to home, but not so close that my mom would pop in and say “Hi” on a daily basis. During the winter of my senior year I took a tour of WMU, fell in love and knew without a doubt this was the university for me.
I am a double major in Organizational Communication and Spanish with a minor in Nonprofit Leadership. I love my communication classes this semester and my internship with the Office of Admissions here at WMU. Also in the summer of 2008, I had the opportunity to study Spanish abroad in Santander, Spain. I highly recommend studying abroad at some point in your college career because it was such an amazing experience and provides great opportunities for you that will last a lifetime.
In my spare time I am involved in the American Humanics Student Association, Drive Safe Kalamazoo (a safe ride program here on campus) and am a Brownie Troop Co-Leader here in Kalamazoo. I also love going to downtown Kalamazoo to shop, catch a $5 movie and of course trying all the awesome restaurants!
