About Katie
Hi! My name is Katie and I'm a freshman here at WMU. I grew up in Saginaw, MI which is about two and a half hours away from Kalamazoo. I went to school at Heritage High School and graduated in 2007. I played three sports throughout middle and high school (basketball volleyball and softball). In my spare time I like to shop, sleep, hang out with friend, etc... Oh yeah, I'm a huge Detroit Tigers fan! :)
I always thought that I would start my college career off at a community college, but my decision quickly changed when I visited Western's campus. I also wanted to go away from home but not too far. Western has great programs and its such a beautiful campus. I came on a tour and fell in love with campus.
My major is speech pathology. I was undecided when I came to WMU but I enrolled in a Speech Pathology class and just fell in love with the major. I really enjoy working with people and helping them at the same time and Speech Pathology is a great major to let you do both things at once.
I live on campus in one of the community style living residence halls called Bigelow. I really like it because Bigelow is really close to all of the buildings. In my free time I like to go to the Student Recreation Center and work out. The Recreation Center is awesome and there are a lot of activities you can engage in!
