BackgroundDon’t wait to get involved on campus. If you can find something that interests you, get involved in it. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and meet new people. And don’t forget to have fun!
Hey! My name’s Katie and I am a senior at Western. I grew up in Clinton Township, MI which is about twenty minutes north of Detroit. I went to Chippewa Valley High School and graduated in 2005. I moved probably ten times in my life and went to eight different schools, both public and private. I have an older brother and a younger sister.
All my life I was dead set on going to MSU because of their education program. I applied to both MSU and WMU and went and visited both colleges. When I came to WMU on a tour, I fell in love with the campus. I learned that Western also has an amazing education program and decided that Western was perfect for me. I love the size of campus. It isn’t so big that you get lost just walking to class, but you still get the “big college” feeling when on campus. I also was very impressed with the College of Education. Western originally started off as a teaching college and it is recognized around the country as a leader in producing teachers. You can’t really get any better than that!
There are so many ways to get involved on campus. I am currently involved
in the Student Ambassador Office, Student Education Association (SEA), and
Alpha Lambda Delta, which is an honors fraternity. I am also applying to be
a part of Kappa Delta Pi, which is an international honors society for educators.
I lived on campus in the residence halls for my first two years. I don’t
have a lot of free time this year, but when I do come across some free time,
I like to play soccer, go out to eat around Kalamazoo, and just hang out with
my roommates.
