Kallista's Advice for Freshman

Be open to meeting new people! You’re bound to meet some great people!

About Kallista

I’m from Ypsilanti, Michigan, where I graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 2005. I come from a big family with four children. I am the first to move away from home for school. One of my favorite things to do is sing, and I’ve sung in choir all through middle school and high school. I have to admit that I’m not the best singer, but I love singing in groups. I am an Apostolic Christian and I’m in love with my church family! I’m just a very hyper person and I love meeting new people.

I started my college search when I was in the 11th grade. By then I had taken my first accounting course and knew it was what I wanted to pursue in college. I looked at a whole bunch of colleges, and it was pretty much overwhelming. I had no idea where to even start. I found out about Western when someone came to do a presentation at my school. It sounded perfect to me, so I went for a visit with my best friend and we both decided if we got in, then that’s where we would go. Obviously, we got in. :)

For my first two years, I lived in Bigelow Hall, one of the Big Three Residence Halls. I loved living there, there was always something interesting going on. I lived with my best friend for 2 years and now we are living in an apartment about a mile away from campus.

On campus I'm involved with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) of which I am president. I am also involved with the Student Ambassadors and Collegiate, Black and Christian (CBC).
