You know what is expected of you in a college setting, make WMU the best years of your life, have fun, but also keep up with your school work, THAT IS A MUST! Become part of organizations/activities, because you will regret it in the end if you don't, WMU offers a lot, so look at all the activities and organizations you would like to join, and again have fun, WMU is the best there is! GO BRONCOS!!
Well I'm Joe Hanson and I'm a junior here at WMU! I'm originally from Ploiesti, Romania. I was adopted in '91 along with my fraternal twin brother right after we were born. My mom is a single mom, and in '95 she adopted my little sister from China. I graduated in 2009 from Northview High School.
I am a transfer student and a lot went into account to what college I wanted to go to. Originally I was leaning towards joining the Navy, but that fell through, so I decided I wanted to be a high school history teacher. I went to Grand Rapids Community College for two years, and received my Associates in Arts. Going to community college for two years, helped me out so much! As I was finishing my second year, I was deciding where I wanted to go. I considered many colleges, but I fell in love with WMU. My cousin went here, and I came down to Kalamazoo many times, and I just fell in love with the town and the campus. I went on tours, and found all of these organizations and activities that you can join, and it's a great way to meet other students. The campus was not overwhelming and I seemed comfortable making my way around. Coming to WMU was the best decision of my life!
Choosing my major was not that difficult. I'm studying Secondary education: Social studies/ history and WMU is known for producing great teachers out of the College of Education and Human Development. Currently I am part of TRiO FESP (Future Educator Success Program), which is part of the College of Education and Human Development. This program helps out future teachers by offering scholarships, tutoring, mentoring, and of course advising! This program helped me out a lot here when I first started at WMU. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, going to movies, hanging out on campus in the residence halls, and you will see me every day in the Student Recreation Center working out with my buddy for a couple hours.
