BackgroundGet involved in a Registered Student Organization: Find something that you like to do and get involved.
Hi my name is Jessica and I am from Harper Woods, which is a suburb of Detroit. I graduated from Grosse Pointe North High School in 2005. I am majoring in Secondary Education-Math and History.
The summer between my Junior and Senior of high school is when I started looking at colleges. I took tours at four different colleges and applied to all of them. I was accepted to all of the schools and I narrowed my choices down to Western and a very small private school. I eventually choose Western because of two reasons. First, Western has a very strong Education Program which is what I wanted to major in and second because when I came on a second tour, I fell in love with the campus and the size of the school. To me, Western is a big school with a small school feel.
My freshman year I became involved with Campus Activities Board and
this year I became the Treasurer of that organization. CAB puts on different
kinds of events; we bring concerts, comedians, and special events to campus.
We also put on Miller Movies, which is where you can go see a movie at
Miller Auditorium for just one dollar and get free popcorn. Being on the
Executive Board of this organization takes up a lot of my time. I am also
involved in my Residence Hall. Living in the Residence Halls is a great
way to get to know people and a very easy way to become involved on campus.
