BackgroundMake sure the college you choose is the right school for YOU. Remember, it'll be your home for many years to come. Choose a major that YOU are passionate about. To live a happy life, YOU, must make these 'life' choices. Be wise, be responsible, and defiantly develop some time-management skills. For Real.
Hey everyone, I’m Jeremy, I’m a sophomore here at WMU. I’m majoring in Art Education, hoping to teach high school art while getting my masters/phd and go on to be a professor at a university. That is my "ideal" plan though. I’m from Holland, Mi; and the only reason that most people know where that is, is because of Tulip Time. I find it a ridiculous holiday, but whatever floats your boat. Previously I was a Panther at West Ottawa high school, now I’m proud to say that I am a BRONCO.
When I went on campus tours when I was a junior/senior in high school, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to major in. I visited Western, CMU (yikes I know), and Eastern. Eastern was a littler college, and coming from a high school with a few thousand students, I preferred a university with a bigger campus. CMU just felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. During my campus tour at Western however, it just 'felt' right. It was a big campus, a walking campus, but wasn’t massive. Other than that, I can’t really explain more than that is just felt comfortable.
I thought allot about my major all through freshman year. I knew I had a passion and skill for art, but being a professional artist didn’t seem very interesting or realistic to me. Hearing about so many students in the education program made me really realized that my desire to help people could be applied to art as well. Art Education is one thing I’ll never regret.
College life is simply, just, amazing. I live in the on-campus apartments; they are basically like a multi-room residence hall room with a kitchen and bathroom. Being just a walk from work and classes like my freshman year in the residence hall really made my decision.
In my free time I'm either drawing/making something, or with friends really.
I love the outdoors, so I tend to explore Kalamazoo. Going on walks, checking
out what all Kalamazoo has, downtown, Miller Movies, and the mall. Usually
whatever I do is pretty random, but I can say there isn’t ever nothing to do. Last
year I lived in the Valleys and I encourage every incoming freshman to live there.
The valleys are 95% freshman, so no one knows anybody. Everyone introduced themselves
to everyone else, no one was left out, and I’ve really made quite a few
friends that will stick with me for the rest of my life.
