Don't let the idea of college overwhelm you! At times it might seem confusing and scary, but it will all work out! Choose a college that makes YOU happy!
Hi! My name is Jenna and I am a freshman at Western Michigan University. I am originally from Germany, and English is actually not my first language. I speak German at home with my two siblings and parents. I also lived in Spain for several years, before moving to the U.S. when I was in 5th grade. I love to travel, see new things, and meet people from all over the world! I also really like to paint and spend time outside. I graduated in 2012, from a high school in the Grand Rapids area.
I applied to several schools, and in the beginning I was really unsure of how to pick a college that was right for me. I toured a few colleges, but none of the tours impressed me as much as my tour of Western. Right away I felt at home and I knew that I would be happy here! Now, why am I studying chemical engineering? Actually, I have always wanted to become an engineer. My dad is an engineer and has always inspired me to study engineering. So far I really enjoy it!
Besides staying on top of class work, I think it is really important to get out and have fun! One of my favorite things on campus are "Miller Movies", a monthly event where Western students get together in our big auditorium and watch a movie. It is always fun and makes for a good study break! I am also involved in campus organizations. One of those organizations on campus is called "Colleges Against Cancer". Every year we organize a Relay for Life event, which raises money for The American Cancer Society. It has always been really important to me to help others, and I guess this is my small way of making a difference.
