Get involved. Seriously, it's the best decision I've made here at Western. There is never an excuse to be bored on campus!
Hello prospective Broncos! I'm Jenna, and I am a sophomore this year. I am from Rochester Hills, MI, and graduated from Rochester Adams High in 2011. I am majoring in Speech Pathology and German, with a minor in Psychology.
I originally looked at Western for their Music Education program, but as soon as I came on a tour I knew I wanted to go here, no matter what I decided to study. The layout of campus and the attitude of the people on campus really drew me in. I loved how everything on campus was so accessible, and getting off campus was easy as well. The people here were also a factor; the people I met seemed focused on school, but were also very involved on campus and always had something fun to do. I landed on my Speech Pathology major by taking an introductory class, and from then on I knew that that was what I wanted to study. Although I don't think I will use much German in my career, I decided to major in it because I took it all through high school, and wanted to become fluent. It has actually been easy to fit all the classes I need into my schedule.
There is so much to get involved with on campus! I am involved in the German Club, and I love taking aerobics classes at the Student Recreation Center. Getting involved is a great way to meet people who have similar interests as you! I also lived in the residence halls for both my first and second year, and loved it. It was so convenient to be able to wake up and get to classes in 10 minutes, and it is also a great resource for meeting people. In my free time, I love to go to Downtown Kalamazoo or the mall. Kalamazoo is very student friendly, and it is fun to just walk around and check out the shops that are down there.
