BackgroundYou'll get hammered with this sentence a dozen times, but it's true… GO TO CLASS. It might just help you pass!
My name is Jacob. I'm a Freshman from Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, MI. I graduated in 2012, with a class of about two hundred. I was really involved in the Theatre Arts department and the Choir back at LHS. So, if anyone ever wants to geek out about a show with me, do it! I'm a Psychology and Statistics major, and I love the interaction between those. Both are things I love to do, and I can talk about them for hours.
One of the reasons I came to Western was because I wanted to be able to do the full four years at a university. Around half my class went to a community college, and I really wanted to go somewhere for a full four years before graduate school. I was able to join the MLK academy and get enough money to go here for a full four years, and I have loved the decision ever since.
Probably my biggest struggle has been trying to find ways to be involved on campus while being a commuter. It's certainly difficult, but just being a part of the admissions office and talking to prospective students has been one of the biggest helpers. The best way I can translate this to everyone else is to just try and be willing to speak to anyone. People are fascinating (Hence the Psychology Major) so get to know them!
