BackgroundWhen you finally decide on the university that you are going to attend, get involved. When new students get involved early on campus, they will make new friends and be able to get acclimated to the university.
Hi everyone, my name is Gretchen and I am a senior here at WMU. I’m from Westland, Michigan, which is about 2 hours away from Kalamazoo. I am a 2006 graduate of John Glenn High School. In high school I was involved in DECA, SADD, Student Counsil and Class Representatives.
Western has an amazing College of Business and that is the main reason that I chose to come to WMU. My mom also graduated from Western, so I have always been a Bronco at heart. I went on two campus tours and finally decided that WMU is the place for me. Ever since my sophomore year in high school I knew that I wanted to go into business. I am majoring in Sales and Business Marketing and hoping that one day I will be able to work at the NHL with their corporate sponsorships for the teams throughout the country.
College life is much different than life when you were in high school. You re able to pick the classes that you want to take and you re able to make your own class schedule. There are numerous organizations that WMU has to offer. I am involved in Alternative Spring Break, Fall Welcome, Drive Safe Kalamazoo and the Campus Activities Board. When I’m not studying or getting involved, I love to go to WMU sporting events. The student sections at the games are amazing, especially Football and Hockey. I have lived in the residence halls for three years. You are able to meet great people and stay connected with the Western community when you live on campus.
