“Live every day as if it were your last”, was a quote that applied to my life every single day. Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and raised in a small suburban town called Plymouth, I was always an energetic girl who loved to have fun. I loved playing sports and being outside from dusk till dawn. I spent a lot of time with my Mom, Dad, and my older sister Gwen. I have and will always be family-oriented. Coming from a small town, I went to Elementary School, Middle School, and High School with the same people. I graduated from Canton High School with honors in 2007. After I graduated from High School, I thought that my life would just fall into place. I had to make the biggest decision of my life; where I was going to attend college.
The summer before my senior year, I already began looking into many different colleges that I was interested in. In August of 2006, I had visited the top three colleges that I was going to apply to. I went to Eastern Michigan University first, then Michigan State, then Western Michigan University. I was interested in these specific colleges because they all had really good business programs. When I went to Eastern and Michigan State, I liked the actual school, but I did not like the atmosphere. I did not feel “at home” when I stepped onto campus. But when I went to Western, I felt something different. I remember being very impressed at all of the things that Western had to offer. From safety, to classroom sizes, to campus activities; I knew as soon as I left the tour that Western was going to be my new home for the next four years of my life.
Choosing Western was the best decision I every made in my life. I remember when I first moved in for fall welcome week. Being a freshman at the time, I was extremely nervous and scared. But as the week progressed, I met a lot of people who were in the same position I was in. During this week I truly got a feel for the campus, I learned where things were, and I made a lot of friends! So when classes began, I was not scared at all. I knew exactly where everything was. After completing my first semester, I then knew exactly what I wanted to major in; Human Resource Management. When I first came to college, I knew I wanted to major in business, but I did not know specifically what type of business I was interested in. It was not until I went to an on campus event called the Business Bash that I knew I wanted to major in Human Resources. I talked to a representative from an organization called SEHR, and she gave me a lot of more information about the major which made my decision a lot easier.
Being that it is my third year at Western, I am currently involved in many
campus organizations and activities. I am currently a member in an organization
called AHSA which stands for the American Humanics Student Association, SEHR
which stands for the Society of Excellence in Human Resources, and Sigma
Alpha Lambda which is a leadership and honors fraternity/sorority. Through
being
a member of these amazing organizations, I got the chance to meet a lot of
different people, and I got to participate in community service activities
and plan fundraising events. In my free time, I like to go off campus to
the cafés in downtown Kalamazoo, and I also like to go bowling, and to the
movies!
