BackgroundIf you are having a hard time to adjust, stick it out. The first month was really hard for me but I decided to stick it out and am really glad I did because I love it here!
Hey everyone! My name is Gabriela and I am a freshman attending Western Michigan University. I am originally born here in Kalamazoo then my dad got transferred around a bit until we ended up in Bordman, Ohio for seven years. My family and I moved back to Michigan in 2001 and have lived in Grand Blanc ever since. I went to a private school all the way up until eighth grade then went to public school, Grand Blanc High School, for high school. I graduated in 2009. I swam all four years and was captain for the swim team my senior year. I have two younger sisters and love to hang out with them because they are hilarious!
When deciding where I wanted to attend college, Western Michigan was the only place I really wanted to go. Both of my parents are alumni and always talked about how great Western was for them. I have family that doesn’t live too far from Kalamazoo so I have been coming to this town for years. I love this town! There are so many places to go and Sweet Waters dounuts are the best! I love the fall season and fall here at Western is beautiful!
I chose the major Speech Pathology because I want to help people. I want to be able to make a difference. I had a teacher my senior year and she was the best teacher I have ever had. I remember thinking how much I loved the way she taught her class and made everyone feel like they were special in their own way and I want to make people have that same feeling and help them in communicating better with society so they can have a voice.
I am currently involved in the Student Ambassador Program at Western Michigan University. I love it because everyone is really nice at the office and when walking with a friend I sometimes find myself spouting off random facts about the campus. I live in the residence halls here. I have a suite style which is where typically four girls/boys shared a bathroom and have to maintain it themselves. The food is really good in the cafeteria and carry out is really convenient when I find myself studying late. In my free time, I love to either read, hang out with the people on my floor, or go to miller movies (movies not realeased on DVD but not in theaters).
