BackgroundStay motivated! It's easy to get swept up in the excitement of a new experience, but remember to focus on your school work. Your education is what's most important.
Hi, I'm Elyse. I graduated from high school in 2009 and came to Western to become a Bronco! I'm a Senior in the Aviation Flight Science major and try to fly every day I can. I have earned my private pilot certificate and instrument pilot rating from WMU's flight program in the Cirrus SR20 and am working on Commercial Certificate in the Piper PA-44 Seminole. I plan on becoming a professional pilot for a major commercial airline, hopefully in the near future.
When I was choosing a University, I applied to 10 schools, all different sizes, most of them in-state. After a little deliberation I decided on Western, mainly because it is the only comprehensive four-year aviation flight program in Michigan, and one of the largest and most prestigious colleges for aviation in the US. I also loved that it had so many options in case I wanted to add a minor in another field. I am very impressed with the top-notch training I receive from WMU, in top-of-the-line equipment, and I personally could not imagine myself anywhere else but here.
When I'm not busy flying, I like to go to the yoga classes held at the Student Recreation Center and spend time with friends. I'm also involved in Women in Aviation, a student organization to promote females with wings! I also have two jobs on campus: giving tours to students interested in applying, and working in my Residence Hall. I've lived in Henry Hall for the past three years and love it! Since I live in Aviation Specialty Housing, I feel very connected with the other people on my floor and it's easy to get together to study or make connections!
