BackgroundMy best advice for freshmen is: Decide for yourself. Visit! Visit! Visit! You will know in your gut which place is best for you and don’t let anything come between you and your decision.
Hi! I’m Cassie and I’m proud to call WMU my home! I graduated
from Grand Haven High School in 2006. I swam on my high school swim team and
participated in my church’s youth group and praise band.
When I started thinking about college, I didn’t know where I wanted to
go. I started by applying early. Once I knew where I was accepted, I went on
tours. The tour is the most important part of deciding where to go. When I
toured Western I felt at home. Western was the place that I could see myself
living and learning. The community is the perfect size for me, not too big
and not too small. The population is diverse and I find myself learning something
new everyday. I came to WMU thinking I was going to be a Criminal Justice major
but that changed when I took my first Anthropology class. When you find yourself
having fun doing your homework it’s a pretty big sign.
College life is better than I ever expected. I was incredibly nervous on move
in day my freshman year. I thought I was going to hate living in the Residence
Halls with someone I didn’t know. However, I spent my first three years
living on campus. I went in blind every year and I love it. Living on
campus makes me feel
like
a true
part of
the
university.
I love being a
student ambassador. I go to on campus events like Miller Movies and comedians.
Downtown Kalamazoo is my second favorite place besides campus. They are always
having a festival or an art hop and they host many wonderful concerts. WMU
is a very involved campus and there truly is something for everyone here.
