BackgroundMy advice to freshman is to take many different types of classes to expand your knowledge, become involved as much as possible, and most importantly, make an effort to introduce yourself to your professors. Professors are a great resource and truly want to help you succeed. It will only benefit you in the end through grades or even letters of recommendation after college.
While I was in high school I attended numerous campus visits to colleges and universities both in and out of state. Western Michigan University’s campus visit was by far the best one I attended. All of the students were so friendly and made me feel very welcomed. Not only does WMU give the feeling and experience of a large university, but it has a smaller and more family-like campus atmosphere. One of the main reasons I attended WMU was the level of faculty support and accommodations available for students.
I have officially switched my major five times throughout my two and a half years at Western. Currently I am in the pre-law program and plan to take the LSAT (Law School Admissions Test) in June of 2008. Even with the frequent changes in my major and minor, the advisors have worked closely with me to make sure I will still be able to graduate on time. Unlike many people think, it is ok to switch your major, and you would be surprised how useful and interrelated the different material is.
College has been such a great experience for me. I spent my first two years
in the residence halls which introduced me to hundreds of people, two of whom
I still live with today. The activities provided by the Hall Directors and
Resident
Assistants gave us a chance to bond with each other as well as learn about
opportunities on campus and in the surrounding areas. In addition to living
on campus for two years, I am currently involved with the Student Ambassador
Program, The Pre-Law Society, Colleges Against Cancer, and participate in intramural
sports.
