My advice is to be out going when going to college. Everyone is in the same position as you are and also want to make new friends.
My name is Anthony, and I am a freshman here at Western Michigan, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I grew up in Orland Park, Illinois, which is right outside of Chicago. I graduated from Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park in 2012.
When I was doing my college search, I visited a couple schools in Illinois and here at Western before I made my choice. What eventually made me choose WMU over the other schools was because of how good the engineering program is here, as well as the feel of the campus. What made me decide on Mechanical Engineering was that I was good at math and I am really interested in how and why things work. Engineering in general was my interest in general.
College life is a big change, but it is an awesome one. Since move-in-day, I have loved my time here and have been so busy between school, work and social time. Here at Western, I work in the Student Ambassador's Office while attending school and I love it. Living in the residence halls is definitely something I recommend. As a freshman in one right now, I can tell you it's an experience like no other. There are not many chances in life to live in a building with all your friends. In my free time, I do what most students do. I hang out with friends, do homework, play sports, work out and do activities around campus.
