BackgroundAs a freshman, the most imporant thing to keep in mind is that this is your foundation year. You may be hesitant to get involved because you feel as though you are new and unexperienced, but the truth is that it's one of the greatest times to check out everything our campus has to offer. This is so you have plenty of options for the next years! Keep in mind too that this is your foundation for your cumulative GPA as well so study, study, study!
My name is Amber, from South Lyon, MI. I graduated in 2010 from South Lyon High School. My hobbies include dancing, yoga, shopping, and hanging out with friends! I am currently a freshman who is looking forward to my upcoming years at WMU.
At first i was hesitant about going away to school. I was undecided with anything and everything about college; What I wanted to major in, what programs i was going to be involved in, who I wanted to live with, and the whole experience that goes along with it. In the back of my mind i knew that it was going to be the greatest experience possible to go away, so I decided to finally motivate myself to go look at schools. I checked out a few big universities like CMU and MSU. WMU was the last tour i went on. After talking to people who graduated and go to Western, I had a very positive outlook already. Once I took a tour of the campus I automatically knew I belonged. Yeah, the other schools were nice, but I just felt like there was SO much opportunity for me here. I was very right! I love WMU and im extremely happy that im getting the full college experience because nothing compares to it.....it's AWESOME!
I am part of the Sigma Kappa sorority here at Western. Greek life is one of the best social networking opportunities a student can have. With so many outreach projects, leadership positions, GPA standards, and all of the fun, there is no way you could go wrong! At WMU, it is almost impossible to not be involved with something enjoyable. By living in the residence halls my freshman year, I have met an enormous amout of people who have invited me to join and try out new things. I've taken part yoga club, been to RSO events, and much more!
