HELLO!!! My name is Adriana and I am from the tiny town of Gobles, Michigan. I've lived in the same place since I was 5 years old. My house is surrounded by corn fields and cow farms! My family used to own just about every animal that you can think of at one point in time including 2 EMUS. I went to a high school that was connected to our middle school and had the elementary school right across the street, like I said before small town. But in my point of view at the time Gobles High School was the place to be!! In high school I played basketball, volleyball and track (I was a sprinter!).My favorite was definitely volleyball though! I was very involved in high school and had a great experience. I graduated in the year of 2008.
Honestly, the college decision process wasn't hard for me at all. I have
always been very familiar with Western Michigan University. My mom and
sister are
alumni from Western and I only live a half hour away. I knew since 8th grade
that I was going to go to this university. I received a 4 year tuition scholarship
and that is what really sealed the deal. I never even looked or visited any
other schools. As far as choosing my major, I had a few choices in mind.
First off, I was think maybe I wanted to be a pediatrician but I realized
that wasn't
for me when I had to babysit my 2 and 3 year old niece and nephew. My senior
year in high school I took a vocational technology class called allied health,
it went over all different careers in the health field (massage therapy,
occupational therapy, athletic training etc.). After taking that class
I came into Western
with my mind set on Occupational Therapy. My freshman year I took some introduction
classes and realized that I don't have the type of personality to be in an
office setting all day. That is when I knew exactly what would fit with me.
I wanted something that was in the health field but also active and spontaneous.
I didn't want to work with elderly or children and I have always had a passion
for sports. I am happy with my decision and my long term goal is to become
an athletic trainer at a Division 1 university.
Coming into college I really didn't know what to expect as far as what I
was going to do with my free time. Since I wasn't playing sports anymore
I didn't
know how I was going to fill that gap. Once I discovered the student recreation
center I fell in love! I can still be active, still play sports and it's
already included in my tuition!!! What more could a girl ask for?? I am
not just a
work out junkie, I also like to go shopping at the mall nearby and go to
miller movie nights (it only costs a dollar to get in for students, it's
shown on
the big screen at miller auditorium and there is free popcorn!). I have
lived in the residence halls every year that I have been at Western. I
think living
in the residence halls is a fantastic experience. You get to meet so many
new people and make so many new friendships. Not to mention how convenient
it is
to get to and from classes! There are also a ton of activities that all
of the residence halls put on during the fall and spring semesters. Last
year
at my residence halls we had ice cream parties, gingerbread house contests,
super bowl parties, guest speakers come in and so much more!!!
