Organizations

  • Western Student Association, Campus Concerns Committee WMU’s Student Government has a committee that works with administration and faculty on environmental projects, increases environmental awareness on campus, and disseminates information on environmental issues.
  • Students for a Sustainable Earth WMU’s Student Environmental Organization. Open to all WMU Students and works to increase campus sustainability. Past projects include the ECOMUG, working with administration on Bronco Bus routes, and helping to further the recycling program at WMU.
  • Michigan Student Sustainability Coalition Coalition of Colleges and Universities throughout Michigan. Works on statewide issues concerning mining in the U.P., coal moratoriums, and the campus climate challenge.
  • Gibbs House for Environmental Research and Education (GHERE) is a program of Western Michigan University's Environmental Institute that focuses on undergraduate research and community engagement. Gibbs House offers year-long fellowships to undergraduates who design and execute projects that improve local environmental sustainability within numerous disciplines. The Gibbs House is also a place where community groups meet and hold events, WMU classes have hands-on lessons, and free workshops are hosted. Get involved by applying to become a fellow or coordinator.
  • ECOMUG is a 16 oz. Stainless steel travel mug that can be used for discounts at coffee shops throughout the Kalamazoo Area. The travel mug is a replacement for Styrofoam, plastic, and paper cups.
