To participate in TRiO SSP, students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Western Michigan University.
First-generation students, income-eligible college students, and college students with disabilities are eligible to participate in TRiO projects.
First-generation is defined as neither parent has received a 4 year degree or if the primary supporting parent doesn’t have a 4 year degree.
Income Eligible is defined by the US Department of Health and Human Services as an individual whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount. This number is adjusted yearly and is based on your taxable income.
A student with disabilities is defined as a student who has a documented disability at Disability Services for Students at WMU.
First-year students will receive an application packet from TRiO SSP prior to orientation if they are identified as eligible. If you are an incoming first-year student and believe you are eligible but did not receive an application packet, please contact us for more information.
If you are interested in joining TRiO SSP and believe you qualify, please download the TRiO SSP Application.
A complete application is necessary for us to process. Please remember to fill in the taxable income portion. Please remember to include the essay as well as your academic information. If you have questions, please contact us.
