Student Council for Exceptional Children

studentsWestern Michigan University Chapter #346

SCEC provides assistance to exceptional children in a way that enhances their academics as well as improves their quality of life.

The SCEC is working side-by-side with Parchment Northwood Elementary School to provide hard-working and well-behaved students with books named the “Northwood Literacy Fund.” The process is simple: classroom teachers nominate students noticed for being exceptional. SCEC then rewards the students with a book that has been handpicked for them according to their individual interests and reading level. SCEC has dedicated all fundraising profits directly to the “Northwood Literacy Project.”

SCEC is always looking for new members who want to improve the lives of children with disabilities. There are several benefits to joining SCEC:

  • You can become a member of Council for Exceptional Children. As a part of that, professional journals will be sent to you.
  • Networking with experts in your community.
  • Add new leadership skills to your resume. Above all, you are improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities.

The SCEC has “walking tacos” fundraisers monthly. We are also very excited to work with other student organizations on campus to set up volunteer opportunities with Special Olympics.
