Michael Braun is a master faculty specialist in the Department of Spanish at Western Michigan University. He joined the Spanish faculty full time in fall 2004, after teaching Spanish methodology at WMU on a part-time basis for four years. With over 10 years of teaching experience at both the secondary and university levels, Braun oversees the Spanish Secondary Education Program and provides students with one-on-one mentorship and invaluable first-hand knowledge with real world application.
Braun began his career after receiving a B.A. in Spanish Education and Business Education. Braun implemented the International Baccalaureate Curriculum and taught all five levels of Spanish for 12 years at Portage Northern High School, Portage, Michigan.
He has presented award-winning workshops and conference sessions for local school districts and national organizations including the Michigan World Language Association and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. He is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
Braun has a recognized interest in Spanish poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. He was the recipient of the 2015-16 College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Achievement Award in Teaching.
