The School of Public Affairs and Administration at Western Michigan University handbooks should be used in conjunction with the Western Michigan University graduate catalog.
Each September, the academic history of all MPA students will be reviewed and students who have not completed a course in more than one calendar year will be sent a letter providing them the option of applying for readmission or withdrawing from the program. Those who choose to withdraw will also be asked to indicate their reason(s) for withdrawing.
Students who completed their first course five years prior to the audit will receive a written request to meet with their advisor. If the advisor and student determine it is not possible to complete the program within six years of finishing the first course, then the student may submit a graduate degree extension form. In the event that the extension request is not approved and the student cannot complete the program within the six-year time limit, then he or she will be required to withdraw from the MPA program by the end of year six.
The academic history of students who were admitted on probationary status will be reviewed within two months of the end of each semester and session. Students will receive written notification when:
