Dr. Robert Wait is a professor emeritus of sociology at Western Michigan University.
Wait is concerned with extending and testing the interactionist theory of G.H. Mead using a variety of quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Wait's research involves the construction of personal behavior within the constraints of role expectations (role making).
Wait's major interests include:
- How a person's meanings are organized in relation to his or her positions in various social orders.
- How a complex self develops in relation to the perspectives and interaction patterns available in families and organizations.
