WMU Sponsored Student Health Insurance

Enrollment is now being accepted for the SPRING AND SUMMER SEMESTER WMU Student Health Insurance Program. To purchase the policy, please go to www.chickering.com and select "find your school". Insurance can be purchased for the spring semester only, or for the spring/summer combined. Complete policy information and online enrollment access is available. Online purchasing will be available December 1st through January 19th. Coverage begins on January 1st (or the day you purchase if after Jan 1st). Students must have at least one credit hour for the spring semester to qualify to purchase.

Graduate Assistants – Be sure to purchase the student insurance through the Graduate College in order to receive your university financial assistance. Please go online to www.chickering.com, click on "find your school", and follow the GA instructions given in the "enroll" section.

Returning International students – Health insurance is mandatory while studying in the US. We will automatically purchase the WMU student insurance for you unless you provide proof of private insurance to the Sindecuse Health Center insurance office before January 19th. If you are seeing a $715 charge on your student account for spring and summer insurance, but you provided private insurance proof at the beginning of the fall semester, this means your fall waiver has expired and you must provide proof that you've renewed your private insurance. If you will be graduating at the end of the spring semester, or you will leave the US before May 1st and not return again until August, you may request a refund on the summer insurance fee. You must provide either a graduation audit or an airline ticket showing you will leave the US before May 1st.

New International students – Be sure to attend the mandatory insurance orientation (January 5th) for explanation of the WMU insurance benefits, and instructions for opting out if you have private insurance.

Sindecuse Health Center claims will be submitted directly to our student insurance company. Our policy is a member of the Aetna PPO network. If you need to see a specialist (with a referral from Sindecuse), or if you are further than 25 miles from campus, you can access www.aetnanavigator.com to find a participating provider. Insurance payments for Preferred Providers vs. Out-of-Network Providers are explained in the student insurance policy brochure found online at www.chickering.com .
