Asthma Wellness Program

During the past twenty years, the prevalence and severity of asthma among all age, gender, and racial groups in the U.S. have increased. Asthma can keep you up at night, interfere with your social life, and disrupt your school and work schedule. Asthma can kill; but it can also be managed.

The Asthma Wellness Program (AWP), a program for WMU students and employees, can help you: 1) reduce troublesome symptoms, 2) prevent chronic symptoms from turning into full attacks, 3) maintain normal physical activity levels, and 4) correctly and consistently use medications.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with a clinician who will assess the severity of your asthma, and with your input, develop a treatment strategy that's best for you;
  • With the assistance of a health educator, identify specific triggers that increase the likelihood of having asthma attacks and then develop strategies to avoid them;
  • Learn about the importance of physical activity and healthy nutrition
