Health Care for Children

Children pose a special concern for parents working to complete their graduation requirements. The following services can help enrolled students with children ensure access to appropriate health care for their children.

Children over 12 Years of Age
Children aged 12 and over of enrolled students can be seen at the Health Center and have access to our many professional services. Health care for children requires a membership fee charged on the first professional visit to the Health Center each semester or session. Health care coverage runs from the first day of classes of one semester or session to the first day of classes the following semester or session.

Membership fees for children include the following:

Buy-in Fee for Children of Enrolled Students

First child $51.50/semester, $25.75 session
Second child $32/semester, $16/session
Third child No additional charge

Buy-in for children of Non-enrolled WMU students

First child $61.50/semester, $30.75 session
Second child $32/semester, $16/session
Third child No additional charge

Children Under 12 Years of Age
Children under the age of 12 can be seen at any of the private family practice pediatric offices throughout Kalamazoo. However, not all private pediatric practices accept new patients. The Michigan State University/Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies Pediatric Clinic and Family Practice Clinic accept new patients with Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, or other commercial carriers as well as some HMO's.
