Financial Information
Terminology Sheet
The terms used on the Financial Information sheet are defined below. Please refer to these as you complete the Financial Information form, as needed.

State Grant:
The amount of money allocated to the Michigan Mathematics and Science Center Network by the state legislature (Section 99).

Pupil Allocation for Accelerated Programs:
Funds received from school districts for student enrollment in school-day advanced mathematics and science programming. Seven Centers presently receive these funds. The pupil allocation provides for facilities, highly qualified instructors, and equipment. It generally does not pay administrative costs.

Payments for Programs, Services, and Products:
Fees received from schools, teachers, students, and administrators for special programs and products. Examples are Professional Development Institutes, Summer Camps (focused on mathematics and science), and Science Kits to use in classrooms.

Salary Support from Intermediate School Districts and Universities:
Provision of temporary salary support to Centers from Centers' fiscal agents (ISDs, Universities, and DPS).

Community Support:
Fund contributed by local organizations, businesses, and industries to support programming. Generally, these funds are for targeted purposes and do not provide for operational expenses.

ISD/District Contributions:
In addition to salary supports, some ISDs provided contributions to the General Operating Expenses, enabling Centers to continue to provide quality professional development and student services in mathematics and science after 75% of state funds were lost.

Restricted Grants:
These grants are for targeted programs. For example, most federal grants are designated for professional development and research to collect evidence of the efficacy of the programming. They do not provide for ongoing costs such as student services, facilities, or administration.

Unrestricted Grants:
Unrestricted grants can be used for all purposes related to the mission and strategic plan of the Mathematics and Science Center.

Other:
All other funds received such as facility rental, payment for special services, etc.

Carry-Over:
Funds that remain at the end of the fiscal year which are carried over to support the next year's programming. Often carry-over funds are due to temporary staff vacancies.
