Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty Scholarships

A 2 Year Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship is available for both Army Reserve and Michigan Army National Guard soldiers who are full-time students at WMU and enroll in the ROTC Advance Course and the Simultaneous Membership Program(SMP). As an SMP cadet, you will gain valuable leadership experience by serving alongside a Platoon Leader in the ARNG or USAR Troop Program Unit.

You are obligated to serve in the ARNG or USAR for a period of eight years. As a GRFD Scholarship winner, you will receive the same benefits as the other scholarships (full tuition, $1200/yr for books and a monthly ROTC stipend). Moreover, you will receive your enlisted MGIB @ ($309.00/mo*), E-5 pay @ ($255.84/mo**), and a MGIB Officer Kicker at $350.00/mo. The Michigan Army National Guard offers other financial incentives that you may be eligible for if you attend WMU. Once you graduate, you will receive your commission in the ARNG or USAR as a Second Lieutenant and be assigned to your current unit, or in a different unit. GRFD Cadets also receive the on-campus housing supplement of $3000 per year from WMU
