November 2010 - Thanksgiving Break

The Bronco BN left and returned from the long weekend break with no reported accidents. The 100% safety record is maintained.

March 2010 - Kenz Scholarship Fully Endowed

The Herbert W. Kenz Army ROTC Cadet Scholarship will now award $450 per year to a deserving MS III Cadet. The Cadet must have at least a 3.0 GPA, embody the Army Values and Warrior Ethos, and have a positive attitude towards others and the future. Preference is given to students majoring or minoring in education. Click here for additional information.

December 23, 2009 - Bronco Cadets make Dean's List

26% of all WMU Cadets made the Dean's List in the most current semester. That means that they had a full class load (at least 12 credits) and their semester GPA was at least 3.5.

November 11, 2009 - Broncos Host Veterans for Lunch

On Veterans' Day 2009 the Bronco Battalion hosted 38 veterans from the VA Hospital in Battle Creek along with numerous WMU Alumni Veterans for lunch at the ROTC Building. Cadet Shuan Ray coordinated the entire event which was designed to both honor our veterans and connect cadets with veterans to share experiences. Additionally, the Battalion hosted a blood drive with the American Red Cross and collected 38 pints of blood, exceeding the established goal.

October 2009 - Bronco Cadets Rank High Nationally

43% of Bronco MS IVs ranked in the top 25% of all cadets nationally. 71% Received their first choice of branch.

August, 2009 - Bronco Performance at LDAC (Leadership Development and Assessment Course)

Once again this year, Bronco Cadets exceeded the standards at LDAC with 35% of attending Bronco Cadets receiving the highest leadership evaluation of E (Excellent), and 23% of Bronco Cadets being ranked in the top 5 cadets of their platoon. Congratulations Broncos!

August 17, 2009 - Western one of top military friendly colleges

WMU named among top 'military friendly' colleges

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University has been singled out as one of the top military-friendly schools in the nation on a list released today by G.I. Jobs magazine, a national publication serving veterans and those about to leave active duty.

The list honors the top 15 percent of post-secondary schools nationwide that "are doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students." Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools. The common bond, according to G.I. Jobs, is the honored schools' shared priority of recruiting students with military experience. (read more)

July 28, 2009 - Cadet Abraham Deng featured in Kalamazoo Gazette

WMU student who escaped Sudan trains at Fort Knox - Kalamazoo Gazette

KALAMAZOO -- Sudan native Abraham Deng, who attends Western Michigan University, said he is often asked: How could someone who survived carnage and war in his own country want to face war again by trying to join this country's military?

Deng's answer is that now at least it's his choice to fight. Growing up in northern Africa, Deng had fighting forced on him by the Arab opposition, who burned his village and killed many people, he said in an interview Friday with the Kalamazoo Gazette. (read more)

May 1, 2009 - Cadet Raymond Johnson awarded National Scholarship

ROTC cadet receives national scholarship - WMU News

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University U.S. Army ROTC Cadet Raymond Johnson was recently honored as one of only four individuals nationwide to receive a $2,000 scholarship for future leaders and take part in an intense internship with a senior military commander.

Johnson, a junior from Battle Creek, Mich., who is majoring in computer science, was selected by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association to receive the scholarship and participate in the Future Heroes Program. That program provides exceptional ROTC cadets practical, real-world leadership experience through an intensive summer internship with senior military leaders. (read more)

April 24, 2009 - Colonel Dangerfield inducted into Bronco Wall of Fame

Colonel Michael A. Dangerfield became a part of the elite today when he was inducted into the Bronco Wall of Fame. A Bronco Alumni, Colonel Dangerfield boasts an impressive array of army commendations and decorations along with military educational training. Colonel Dangerfield is yet another Bronco alumni who demonstrates the success of the WMU Army ROTC program.
