About Bronco BN > Cadet Chain-of-Command > Chain-of-Command Description CHAIN OF COMMAND DESCRIPTIONBattalion CommanderCadet Lieutenant Colonel. Commands the Bronco Battalion and is directly responsible to the commandant of cadets for everything that happens in the battalion. Represents the Army ROTC program at WMU. He/she briefs visiting dignitaries on the status of the cadet battalion, promotes esprit-de-corps and is responsible for implementation of the MS IV sponsor program. Actively participates in the weekly cadre training meeting by providing feedback and lessons learned from the previous week's training. Battalion Executive OfficerCadet Major. Supervises the cadet staff and oversees the production of plans and orders. Supervises all ADVON operations for FTX's (Field Training Exercises). Prepares risk assessment for all training and provides safety briefings for all training. Assumes the duties of the cadet battalion commander in his absence. Responsible for cadet headquarters staff area clean-up on a daily basis. Responsible for planning the annual military ball. Battalion Sergeant MajorCadet Command Sergeant Major. Advises the cadet battalion commander on issues he feels affect the cadets of the battalion. Sets the standard for personal appearance, physical fitness, and military knowledge. Responsible for cadet headquarters staff area and cadet lounge clean-up on a daily basis. Supports all training and keeps the commander and staff informed on the status of training in the battalion. Ensures that battalion training is to standard. Commands all color guards during battalion ceremonies. Ensures the quality of cadet uniforms with periodic inspections. Battalion S-1Cadet Captain. Serves as the administrative staff officer for the cadet battalion. Publishes cadet orders for promotions, maintains attendance records for physical training and leadership labs, and assists the cadet S-5 in recruiting. Maintains all hallway recognition boards to display the current status. Maintains and updates the cadet telephone alert roster. Plans all awards ceremonies in conjunction with the cadet S-3. Coordinates the ID card and ID tag process for all MS III's. Assistant Battalion S-1Cadet First Lieutenant. Assists the cadet S-1 in the functions assigned by the battalion executive officer or commander. Battalion S-2Cadet Captain. Assists the battalion S-3 in planning cadet activities with the intelligence, terrain, light and weather portions of the Operations Order (OPORD). Coordinates intramural athletic program for the cadet corps. Publishes and distributes the battalion newsletter. Maintains the cadet library in the lounge and MS IV classroom. Battalion S-3Cadet Major. Coordinates the action of other staff officers in developing plans and orders. Prepares weekly training schedules and develops plans for the conduct of cadet training and field exercises (FTX). Supervised by the cadre operations officer, the S-3 plans and coordinates cadet training, and monitors the instruction provided to cadets. The S-3 prepares a written after-action report on FTX's, and participates in the weekly cadre training meetings in the absence of the cadet battalion commander. Assistant Battalion S-3Cadet Captain. Assists the cadet S-3 in the areas of training, orders, field exercises, and other areas as assigned by the S-3. Battalion S-4Cadet Captain. Coordinates with the cadre supply sergeant for logistical support for all cadet training, FTX's and activities. Ensures that all required training aids and supplies are on-site and ready to support planned training. Assists the supply cadre supply sergeant in uniform issue and turn-in with all cadets. Assistant Battalion S-4Cadet First Lieutenant. Assists the cadet S-4 in the functions assigned by the battalion executive officer or commander. Battalion S-5Cadet Captain. Principal assistant to the cadre enrollment officer. Functions as the battalion public affairs officer. Responsible for cadet recruiting activities, including information booths and the cadet sponsorship program. Briefs visiting dignitaries on the cadet recruiting effort. Assists cadre recruiting officer at university recruiting operations (freshman orientation). Assistant Battalion S-5Cadet First or Second Lieutenant. Assists the cadet S-5 in the functions assigned by the battalion executive officer or commander. Co CommanderCadet Captain. Responsible for training and supervising the MS IIIs (juniors). Plans and coordinates with the MS III cadre instructor and cadet S-3 for all training. Supervises the cadet platoon leaders and platoon sergeants and assists MS III instructor in preparing evaluations. Provides weekly summaries of cadet leader (Platoon Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Squad Leader) performance to the MS III instructor. Requests additional MS IV support for training, when required, from the BN XO (Battalion Executive Officer) or S-3. Prepares and briefs all company OPORDs (Operations Officer) to MS III cadets for FTXs and labs. Monitors MS IV sponsor program and reports status to the BN XO or commander. Co Executive OfficerCadet First Lieutenant. Assumes command of the company in the absence of the commander. Coordinates with Battalion staff to ensure logistical and administrative support of training. Evaluates MS III cadets and assists in all training. First SergeantCadet First Sergeant. Sets the standard for personal appearance, physical fitness, and military knowledge for the company. Assists the company commander in the training and movement of the company. Evaluates MS III cadets and ensures that evaluation cards are adequately stocked. Supervises the PSG in the execution of weekly tasks and maintenance of the Military Science Department. |
