LTC Zoltan L. Krompecher

Professor of Military Science

LTC Zoltan "Z" Krompecher is a native of Athens, Ohio. He enlisted in the Army in 1985 as a cannon crewman (13B) and was stationed in Bad Kissingen, Germany with the 2/41 Field Artillery where he was recognized as "Soldier of the Year." After his assignment to Germany, he volunteered for the Special Forces and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Following service in the Green Berets, he graduated from Ohio University with a degree in secondary education and was commissioned in the Military Intelligence branch. Subsequent assignments include: Korea; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; West Point, New York; Fort Huachuca, Arizona; Fort Gordon, Georgia; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Michigan State University, and Fort Lewis, Washington.

Following an assignment at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York, where he taught English, LTC Krompecher reported to the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) before serving as an instructor at the U.S. Army's Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He has served combat tours with Special operations Task Forces in both Iraq and Afghanistan. LTC Krompecher is Special Forces, Airborne and Air Assault qualified. His awards and decorations include: Meritorious Service Medal (3 x OLC); Joint Service Commendation medal (1 x OLC); Army Commendation Medal (1 x OLC); Army Achievement Medal (3 x OLC); Joint Meritorious Unit Award; Army Good Conduct Medal; Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Medal (2); Afghanistan Campaign medal; Iraq Campaign medal; Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terror Service Medal; Korea Defense Service Medal; Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon (#2 device); Army Service Ribbon, and Overseas Service Ribbon (1 x OLC).

In his off time, LTC Krompecher spends time with his family and writes. He is a contributing author to the Washington Post Book World "Best of the Year, 2006 "Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience" and has appeared in a number of newspaper and periodicals. LTC Krompecher also participated in the video documentary "Muse of Fire" and was invited to speak at the Library of Congress to read his letter "No Time for Snowmen." He also enjoys watching Cleveland sports teams strive for a championship, coaching his childrens' sports teams, and being with his family.

LTC Krompecher is married and has three children.
