Mrs. Cris (the Hammer) Obreiter

OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR AND ENFORCER

Cris' hometown is Ft Worth Texas but she moved to Kalamazoo MI with her family after a short, 9-year detour to Altus Oklahoma. She is married with two children. Cris met her husband in Honduras while on temporary assignment. They were both in the United States Air Force and while in Honduras discovered that they were actually stationed on the same base stateside.

Cris joined the Air Force after high school graduation in the hopes of seeing the world. For her first assignment she was stationed in Altus AFB, Oklahoma where she spent her entire 9-year military career. During that time she worked as an aircraft mechanic on the KC-135, an administrative specialist in the Safety Office, staff reporter for the base paper, Chief of Community Relations for the base and finished in the Quality Improvement Office. She also served as Security Police augmentee where she patrolled the base, provided entry control support, issued tickets and made arrests. She was trained in riot control and use of various weapons. With all this training this qualifies her to handle students in a kind yet efficient manner.

While in the military she received the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Achievement Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Cris has more hobbies than she can mention.

She is willing to try anything once...except jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft. She enjoys sewing, cooking, gardening, reading, the theater, museums and attending cultural events. She also enjoys a good hockey game, stock car race or any other sport/activity where a spontaneous fight or crash might occur. She is still waiting to see anything exciting happen during a round of golf.

Cris started working at Western Michigan University in 1994 in the College of Health and Human Services in the Rural Health Education Program.

If you have the courage, you may contact Cris at (269) 387-8120. E-mail her at cris.obreiter@wmich.edu
