The Summer I session started today at 8:00 a.m. Students have until the end of the day Friday to add/drop a Summer I course. The official census count will be taken at the end of the day on Monday, May 14. Please make every effort to ensure that all students attending Summer I courses are registered in Banner so they can be accurately reflected in our census counts.
Waitlist notification will be turned off Thursday morning for the Summer I session. Any student still remaining on a waitlist will be removed Friday afternoon. If you would like to print a list of students waitlisted in a section prior to Friday, you can do so in Banner on the SFAWLPR form.
Starting this week student photos will be included on the instructor class lists in Banner. Making student photos available to faculty will make it easier for them to get to know the students in their course and will help to verify identity for attendance and test taking purposes.
The student photo will be pulled from the ID card system and will be available on both the detailed and summary class list in GoWMU. Only someone listed as an instructor of record for a section will have access to student photos and they will only be able to see the photos of students enrolled in their sections.
Please keep in mind that student photos should be treated like all other FERPA protected information and not shared with other students, faculty, staff, or with anyone outside WMU.
Per federal regulations, anyone entering the country on a visa type of J1 is prohibited from taking AVS courses, with the exception of AVS 2800. Steps have been put in place to help us comply with this regulation. All students entering under this visa type have been given a cohort code of J1. Also, all AVS courses now have a registration restriction that excludes anyone with a J1 cohort code. It will produce a fatal error.
Therefore, when registering a student for an AVS course, DO NOT OVERRIDE THIS ERROR. You should always choose “Yes” rather than “All” when overriding prerequisite or restriction errors. If a student with a J1 visa type ends up registering for any AVS course, the university will be out of compliance with federal law.
