Spring 2011

Course offerings for spring are available today, both on the public website, https://www.wmich.edu/classlookup and on the course offerings page within GoWMU.

As students enter the registration area in GoWMU, they will be prompted to update their contact information, as we’ve done in the past few years. In addition, this year, students will also have the option to update (or add) an alert phone number. Any questions on this should be referred to this office.

Registration for spring opens on Monday, Oct. 18. The priority registration schedule is available on http://www.wmich.edu/registrar/calendars/timeticketSpring.html.

Online, hybrid courses

Online courses are now defined as being 100% online, with no face-to-face meetings.  A hybrid course is defined as a mixture of online and face-to-face instruction, with at least 51% of the instruction being online.

Once registration for a semester begins, the instructional method for a course, that is the designation as online or hybrid, cannot be changed.  Therefore, please take a look at any of your department's Distance Education courses to make sure that courses listed as online have no face-to-face meetings.  Also, please ask your faculty who are teaching these online courses to confirm they will not be scheduling any face-to-face meetings for these classes.  If they are planning to do so for any Spring sections, those changes must be made by the time registration begins on October 18.

Data on fall student enrollment

More information on our fall 2010 student population is now available on the Institutional Research site, see http://www.wmich.edu/ir/reports.php?type=enrollment&year=2010&sem=40.

The major/minor report includes a breakdown by class of majors/minors for all departments, as one example. Much more data is available here.

Accelerated degree programs

Several ADP’s have now been approved, several in engineering, one in music and in communications. These programs require close communication between advisor and student.

It is important that communication be clear between the dept, the student, Admissions, and the Registrar’s Office so that the process flows smoothly.

If your department is considering an ADP, Dave Reinhold, david.reinhold@wmich.edu would be happy to talk with you and provide assistance during the curricular process.
