As of this morning, we have 13, 376 students enrolled for fall 2010 classes. We have completed the priority registration period; all students are now eligible to register for fall classes.
Please note that under the Higher Education Opportunity Act, we are required to provide students with textbook information when we publish a schedule of courses. So for fall, instructors should have submitted this information for all sections which have required or recommended materials. This is federal law, providing the information is not optional, we have to make it available.
There is a cognos report available which will give a list of sections with textbook materials, by department. The report is in the Schedule Building Reports-Banner folder, and is titled ‘DEPT:Textbook List for Scheduled Sections’.
WMU classes must meet in the classroom assigned by the Registrar’s office; departments cannot move any section to another location. Staff in this office will work with departments to ensure that classes meet in the best possible location and that instructor needs for the section are met. However no department has the authority to move a classroom without working with this office. There are several reasons –
We have to know who is scheduled to meet in any given building at any time; if there were ever be an emergency of any kind which required vacating the building we would need to be able to account for everyone.
There are times when there is an emergency involving someone in a student’s family and we have to reach that student very quickly. We cannot do so if we find the class is not meeting where we had scheduled it to meet.
All buildings on campus are not approved as classroom buildings. If we hold regularly scheduled classes in such buildings or rooms we are in violation of fire codes. For example, Friedmann, Ellsworth, Walwood are not approved classroom buildings.
