Welcome back, I hope you all enjoyed some down time and relaxation during spring break.

New feature in Banner – waitlisting

We are now able to offer departments the option to offer waitlisting for some of their sections. This new tool has advantages for students and for department Chairs and Deans.

Students who put themselves on a waitlist will know that they are 'in line' for the course and will not have to continue to try to register through GoWMU.

Chairs and Deans will be able to easily see the demand for those sections with waitlists, thus waitlisting can be used as an enrollment management tool.

Here's how it works -

  • Students must satisfy all prerequisites and restrictions in order to put themselves on a waitlist.
  • Students cannot put themselves on waitlists for courses which would cause time conflicts with other courses.
  • When a seat becomes available in the section, the student will receive an automatic email letting them know that they have 24 hours to register for the course.
  • If the student does not register within this time frame, that student will be automatically removed from the waitlist and the next student on the waitlist will receive an email with option to enroll in the section.

It will be up to the department to decide whether or not to use waitlisting, it is not appropriate for all courses. For example, waitlisting cannot be used in linked courses.

Waitlisting is available for Summer I, Summer II, Fall and forward. At this point, departments simply need to complete a pink sheet; when we receive the pink sheet, we will add the waitlisted seats to banner.

Please note that if a section has students on a waitlist, students cannot be added to that section by WMU staff. Students on the waitlist have first priority for registration into that section.

Fall registration

Registration for fall will open next Monday, March 15. The priority registration schedule can be found on http://www.wmich.edu/registrar/calendars/timeticketFall.html. We are no longer printing registration booklets, however the fall registration booklet can be found on http://www.wmich.edu/registrar/pdf/Semesters/201040%20-%20Reg%20Booklet.pdf.

Midterm grading

A final reminder that next Sunday, March 14th, is the final day for instructors to enter midterm grading for this spring semester.

Upcoming dates

  • Sunday, March 14 – midterm grading closes, end of day
  • Monday, March 22 – last day to withdraw
  • Mon-Friday, April 26-30 – Finals week
  • Saturday, May 1 – Commencement
  • Tuesday, May 4 –Grades due at noon
