Registration for Summer I and II courses opens today. As always, registration is by a priority schedule which can be found on http://www.wmich.edu/registrar/timeticketSummer.html.
As we have done for the past year, students will be required to update or verify their current address information as part of the fall registration process. Beginning on the first of March, students looking at course offerings or attempting to register for courses through GoWMU, will see a screen asking them to validate or update permanent address information as well as emergency contact information. Students will only see this screen once; after they have validated the information, they will not be asked to do so again until next October.
This year there is a second part to this, which involves the ethnicity survey. As part of changes in the way student ethnicity is reported as required by the DOE, we need to survey current students. So, as part of the address validation, students will also see a screen asking them to answer two questions regarding their ethnicity.
You can view the address validation and the ethnicity screens that students will see in GoWMU, on the bannertraining website, http://www.wmich.edu/bannertraining. Log in with your Bronco NetID and password, then click on ‘Learning SIS menu’ on the left, the first item on this page will be the ‘ethnicity and race survey’.
Through the efforts of both CASP (Center for Academic Support Programs) and University Relations, a new “Academic Assistance” channel is now available on the student tab in GoWMU. The idea behind this is to give our students information on the assistance that CASP offers, to remind students of deadlines, as well as provide information on other opportunities for support services. Questions or comments should go to Randy Ott, CASP Director, randy.ott@wmich.edu.
We are now beginning plans to upgrade our student information system to the newest version which is Banner 8. At this point, we expect to make the conversion on the weekend of Jan. 29, 2010. As you can imagine, much more information will be coming as we move toward this upgrade.
Have a good week,
Barbara
