Welcome back, it does look like Spring break brought us some spring weather!

Updates

Fall registration will open on March 19th.  Please be aware that we still have a large number of classes scheduled without rooms.  With both Brown and much of Kohrman Hall unavailable for classroom use in the Fall the room situation is again extremely tight.  I ask that departments review their fall course offerings with regard to rooms as follows:

• If you have courses on hold which you do not expect to run, please cancel them now to free up the room.
• If you have small sections which you could hold in a building conference room, please let us know.
• If some sections of multi-section courses could be moved to other times (especially away from Tuesday-Thursdays), please send pink sheets.

We are doing all we can to ensure that courses are meeting in the best possible location, for both the instructor and the students, however the current construction projects do provide some challenges.  I appreciate your continued understanding and flexibility.

Midterm grading ended March 6th.  Midterm grades were given online in 470 sections (16,761 actual midterm grades) this Spring semester.  This compares to 9,637 grades in 307 sections last fall.

Official transcripts can now be requested online through GoWMU.  This service is available only to current students at this time.  The request for an official transcript can be found on the student self-service menu under Academic Services.  Students will be prompted for the school, business or other address where they want the transcript sent.  The fee can be paid by credit card.

Catalog updating is in process on both the Undergraduate and the Graduate catalogs.  The 2007-2008 catalogs will be published online in May.  The current catalogs for 2006-2007 will continue to be available at the same site.  Note that both catalogs are now being published on a yearly basis rather than every other year.  As part of this process departments have been given lists of graduate courses not offered in 5 years and undergraduate courses not offered in 3 years for their review. 

Commencement is scheduled for April 28th.

            9:00     College of Aviation and the Haworth College of Business
            12:00   College of Education and Extended University Programs
            3:00     College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, College of Fine Arts, and the College of Health and Human Services
            6:00     College of Arts and Sciences

Upcoming Dates

Monday, March 19th – last day students can withdraw from Spring classes
  (note: students can withdraw online through GoWMU through 11:59 pm on March 19th.)
Monday, March 19th – Fall 2007 registration opens
Monday, April 23rd –  Friday, April 27th - Finals week
Saturday, April 28th – Commencement
Tuesday, May 1st – Spring 2007 grades due at Noon.
Tuesday, May 15th – Spring 2008 schedules available for review and update

Care packages were sent last week to about twenty of our WMU students who are serving in the military overseas.  Thank you to all of you who donated items for these packages!  And thanks to the committee, headed by Gerry Schma, who organized, packed and mailed!!  The next set of care packages will be mailed in June.
