The feeling of winter is definitely in the air as we move to the final few weeks of the semester. We have just a few days until we begin the Thanksgiving break at noon this Wednesday.
Final exams begin on Monday, December 11th and run through Friday, December 15th. All final exams given during this time must be scheduled according to the published schedule of exams, available on: http://www.wmich.edu/registrar/finalexam.html.
Note that University rules allow a student with four or more exams scheduled on the same day to re-schedule one of these to the make-up time. This fall the time scheduled for make-up exams is Friday, December 15th, from 12:30-2:30.
All final exams given during finals week are given in the classroom the course is scheduled to meet in all semester. Any questions on rooms should be directed to the Registrar's Office.
Please remind all instructors to schedule their final exams according to the schedule, and to hold their finals in their regularly scheduled classroom.
Grades for this Fall semester are due no later than Tuesday, December 19th at noon. Just after noon we'll close the system to grading and begin the grade roll process. When our processing is complete, we'll reopen the system, and at this time students will be able to view their grades online through GoWMU. I expect this will be sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 pm.
Note that students will not be able to see their grades until the afternoon of Dec. 19th.
Also note that any grades entered into the system after Dec. 19th at noon will be viewable by students the day after the grades are entered.
Please ensure that all sections in your department have an instructor of record, and that it is the correct instructor of record! Only the instructor(s) of record for a section can enter grades for that section.
"X''-(Failure) Unofficial Withdrawal
The symbol "X'' is used to indicate that a student has never attended class or has discontinued attendance and does not qualify for the grade of " I.'' The "X'' will be computed into the student's grade point average.
So, while both grades of "E" and "X" are computed into the students' gpa as a 0.0, the "X" grade is the appropriate grade for a student who either never attended or stopped attending a course.
