Registrar's Notes

August 28, 2006

The week before the start of Fall classes brings a variety of events to campus, including:

  • Fall Welcome Week, which begins on Tuesday, Aug. 29th, will see over 2800 new freshmen take part in a variety of activities designed to welcome them to WMU. For a complete schedule see www.wmich.edu/fye/fallwelcome.
  • A One-Stop Convenience Center opens Tuesday on the second floor of the Bernhard Center. Students will find many offices on campus offering students the opportunity to take care of business in one location.

Upcoming important dates

  • Tuesday, Sept. 5, Fall classes begin at 8:00 am
  • Monday, Sept. 11, the last day of the drop/add period
  • Tuesday, Sept. 12, Department clean-up day; census
  • Wednesday, Sept. 13, late add fee begins; fee is $100 for each course added for students who have no courses on their schedule prior to this day.

Other items:

Please ensure that all your courses have an instructor of record assigned. This is critical for both reporting at the time of census, and also so that each instructor can access a class list for each course being taught.

Trainings are now scheduled for SIS7.3, please see the SIStraining website for times and locations www.wmich.edu/bannertraining.

The new, revised FERPA brochure will go in campus mail very soon. If you need additional copies, please contact the Registrar's Office.

Regarding FERPA, this is a good time to ask that department Chairs and Staff remind all instructors that grades cannot be posted by SSN or by WIN, or by any part of the SSN or the WIN. Please contact the Registrar's Office with any FERPA related questions.

Final Exam schedule

As stated in the contract:

38.§3 FINAL EXAMINATIONS. In every class taught, all faculty shall give a final examination, i.e., some form of comprehensive evaluative academic exercise appropriate to the course content and according to the published schedule of examinations, during the last week of the semester (which shall be set aside for final examinations), or at or near the scheduled conclusion of the session. The final evaluative exercise may be distributed before the time scheduled for the final exam providing that it is due and collected on the day during the final week of the semester on which the final exam has been scheduled. Exceptions to the requirement of scheduling a final examination (or other appropriate evaluative activity) may be granted, in writing, at the discretion of the appropriate chairperson and/or dean, upon request from the faculty member.

The final exam schedule can be found online, see the registrar's site www.wmich.edu/registrar/finalexam.html
