Registrar’s Notes – September 23, 2013

September 23, 2013

Catalog Year

Since Degree Works is catalog year driven, it is more important than ever to make sure students are listed in Banner with the correct catalog year.  The Registrar's Office has asked the advising offices to work on matching the catalog years on students' curricula, major (s), and minor(s) in Banner.  The catalog years all need to match for Degree Works to function properly.  Until registration opens for spring 2014, corrections to catalog year can be made on SGASTDN. Once registration is open, the change will need to be made on SFAREGS. The students' records must have matching catalog years for the correct requirements to be pulled into their Degree Works worksheet.

Summer II Grading Closed

Grading for the Summer II session has closed. Students who were not issued a grade by the instructor have been given an incomplete. Instructors can remove the "I" grade using the link on the Faculty menu in GoWMU.

First Work Grades

As are reminder, first work grades are due on Sunday. Reaching out to students who are having difficulty early on in the semester is an important step in improving retention. Advisors are there to offer assistance and support to students who are struggling, but they typically are not aware of what is happening in the class room. We rely on instructors reporting first work grades, midterm grades and students not attending in GoWMU as a means of identifying at risk students.

The Early Alert PAT is conducting a year-long study on our early alert initiatives, including first work and midterm grading. As part of the study a graduate assistant will be tracking the outreach for FTIAC (first year) students reported with a first work or midterm grade less than a “C”. The goal of the study is to identify what type of outreach is most effective and to determine the overall impact first work and midterm grades have on student success.
