Summer, 2008

Summer I/II schedules are now available for viewing. Registration for summer opens on Monday, February 18th.

Looking toward summer, we frequently have guest students who come home to the Kalamazoo area for the summer and want to take advantage of our course offerings. There is now a web site, www.wmich.edu/admissions/guest , specifically designed to assist these students with applying to WMU and registering for classes here. In addition this web site provides additional information to help students not familiar with WMU to find the resources they need.

Banner upgrade

The upgrade to Banner 7.5 was accomplished successfully this weekend. You should see very few changes in the appearance of both INB and self-serve banner. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Tuition appeals and late withdrawals

A reminder that the University does not drop classes for non payment. The responsibility for registration, for adding/dropping their courses, and for payment rests with the student.

When students do file an appeal for a late withdrawal and a tuition refund, the documentation is reviewed by a faculty committee (GAPDAC). If the student is granted a late withdrawal by this committee, that does not mean they will be granted the tuition refund. The decision on a refund for the tuition is a separate from the late withdrawal decision.

FERPA question of the week

True or False? A student's degree can be confirmed to some external (outside of WMU) source without first obtaining the permission of the student as long as "degree" is identified by the institution as directory information.

Midterm grading

Midterm grading will open on February 18th and will remain open to instructors through March 9th. More information on how to submit midterm grades can be found on: www.wmich.edu/registrar/midterm-grading.html.

The link to midterm grading will be on the faculty menu in GoWMU by the 18th.

Other items

Grading for the fall 2007 semester is now closed; a grade of ‘I’ has been entered for any students without a grade. Instructors will need to submit a change of grade form to remove these incompletes when appropriate.

Please note that institutional policy allows students to change their grade mode, that is from letter grade to credit/no credit or vice versa, only during the drop/add period. Beyond the first five days of the semester, a change in grade mode cannot be made, per policy as stated in the catalogs.

FERPA answer

True. WMU does include degrees awarded a part of directory information.

March 17, 2008 – Last day for students to withdraw from Spring 2008 courses
March 17, 2008 – Registration for Fall 2008 opens
April 21 – 25 – Final exam week
April 26 – Commencement
April 29 – Grades due at noon.
